Armour plating is a ship fitting made of steel plate and ceramic, built in an Assembler. It adds structure to the ship that carries it, so the ship takes more damage before it is disabled. Its weight lowers the ship's speed.
It is a medium fitting for a slot, not a hardpoint, so it needs a medium or large slot. It is fitted and removed at a station with a shipyard in the ship's system.
