Slugs are solid metal shot for a mass driver, cast from iron in a Smelter. They are the cheapest ammunition to make.
A slug takes time to reach its target. It misses if by then the target has left the body, been disabled or pulled back out of range, and a fast ship whose side detects the shot takes less damage from it.
